The American Institute of Architects Northern Virginia Chapter, a professional organization representing more than 800 Northern Virginia architects, is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of architecture among professionals and expanding the awareness and appreciation of architecture among the general public.The Northern Virginia Chapter encompasses 18 counties in Virginia, extending from Arlington and Fairfax at the northeast, Fredericksburg to the south, Shenandoah to the west and Winchester to the northwest. The majority of this area is now considered to be within the extended metropolitan area of Washington D.C.
